A national survey has revealed that Saints fans are among the most likely in the country to NOT renew their season ticketfor 2006/07 due to the standard of football they watch.

More than 200,000 season ticket holders across England will not renew next season, according to a Virgin Money survey.

The company says 29 per cent of the country's estimated 690,000 season ticket holders won't be renewing with rising costs and poor quality of football the main reasons.

Of those polled, 27 per cent of Saints fans said they would not renew because of the quality of play.

Only Aston Villa (31 per cent), Millwall (29 per cent) and Wolves (28 per cent) recorded higher figures.

Manchester United (19 per cent) topped the list of season ticket holders who would not be renewing due to rising prices.

They were followed by Birmingham City (18), West Bromwich Albion (17), Cardiff (16) and Portsmouth (14).

Virgin Money estimates the total spent per season by football fans across Britain is a staggering £8.8 billion with season-ticket holders spending an average £1,875 each a season.

Other reasons for not renewing include; job change (2 per cent); family commitments (2); and home move (4).

Virgin Money spokesman Scott Mowbray said: "There are limits to the loyalty of fans and they can't keep spending and spending.

"The numbers of loyal season ticket holders who will not renew next season should be a wake-up call.

"It should also be a concern that fans are not too impressed with the quality of the football they are paying to watch.

"Clubs should remember they are to some extent in the entertainment business."
