Southampton Petanque Club stalwart Robin and Jill Lovelock, playing with Shedfield's John Pollinger, won the Shedfield Triples competition.

Their experience showed as they worked their way to the final in their first competition of the year.

One of their victims on the day was another team from Southampton, the juniors made up of Graham Galton, Shane King, Robert Padwick and Wayne Webster, beaten 13-4.

In the final they were up against the highly-rated side of Ian Burchell, Stuart Hale and Karen Lombard playing as the Hampshire Rose 1. Again this was a close game, but the Lovelocks and Pollinger held their nerve to win 13-12.

Limestone PC's team of Hilary and Gianni Dalmasso and Jed Stone won the main consolage by beating Shedfield II 13-11.

  • The Junior teams from across the Southern Counties were playing in sides that will be playing at the Inter-Regional Championships in September.

Unfortunately they had an off day. The four teams could only manage three wins from 15 games. The best junior team was that of the Southern Counties Pontin's Challenge Team led by David Plumhoff playing with Ryan Dickson and Mike Padwick who managed to win two games during the day.

  • Graham Galton got through to the last 16 of the English Paranaque Association mixed doubles at Bury St Edmunds before losing out with last-minute stand-in partner Jill Goodyear from Thames Valley.
  • In the six-a-side leagues, Southampton City Saints continue their good run, beating Adur Leisure 3-2.

They have now won four games from five and are pushing for the top spot in Division 3.

The Southampton City Pilgrims lost again when they were beaten 4-1 away to the Ship from Owslebury and are now in real trouble as they sit at the bottom of Division 2.
