Prospective Saints chief executive Jim Hone has welcomed Lawrie McMenemy's support for the Michael Wilde camp's plans.
Hone, speaking on behalf of the proposed new directors, believes that McMenemy's views further underlines the need for boardroom change when the EGM takes place in 13 days time.
Speaking in last night's Echo, McMenemy, the club's most successful manager and a much loved local figure, called for chairman Rupert Lowe's regime to end.
The 1976 FA Cup winning boss also revealed he would accept an offer from Michael Wilde to sit on the club's football board if he wins the EGM.
Hone said: "We have maintained that there is widespread support across the fan and shareholder base for major changes to the board. The comments made by such a legendary figure in the club's history is further vindication of this position."
