Team Southampton's junior athletes won a crushing victory in the second Wessex league fixture of the season at Bournemouth last Sunday.

The team won by 85 points from second-placed club Poole.

With the under-17 athletes now returning after their GCSEs, the club were able to fill nearly all the events on offer and the team is now in overall joint second place in the league, behind Reading.

The under-15 boys relay team recorded a league record for their 4 x 100m time of 47.8.

Anchored home by star sprinter Bradley Alouah-Peasah, they were comfortable ahead of second-placed Bournemouth by more than five seconds.

It capped a splendid day for Bradley and Sam Derham who made it another clean sweep of victories in the 100m and 200m A and B string races Sam Starr scooped the boys' track-athlete-of-the-match award when he ran a superb under-15 boys' 80m hurdles to win in 11.5 seconds, 1.7 seconds clear of his nearest rival.

Jamie Knapp and Chris Dennis both ran well in the under-17 boys' 1,500m to win the A and B strings.

Sean Foord and Ross Langford again ran very strongly to dominate the sprint events and help the team to a 4 x 100m win in the under-17 men's event.

In the under-13 boys' events, new thrower Hakim Peruzi won the A string shot with 8.45m.

In the girls' events there were a number of wins across the age groups where the teams all took first team places within their age categories.

Individually, Justine Alexander (javelin), Megan Fry (shot and B string 200m) and Lucy Ferris (high jump) all scored wins in the under-13 age group.

Sophie Mead (100m and 200m), Georgie Pick (shot), Anna Stevens (discus) and Hannah Ransome (800m) took under-15 girls' A string victories to show the club's strength in depth in that age group.

Michelle Hallett sprang to a win with a leap of 4.89metres in the under-17 A string long jump.

The club's next event for juniors is a home fixture at Southampton Sports Centre this Saturday in the National Young Athletes League, when the team hope to keep up their successful consecutive winning streak.
