Chamberlayne Gymnastics Club made their mark in the Hampshire County Female Artistic Levels Championships in Basingstoke at the weekend.

Two of the Southampton club's gymnasts won medals.

In her first voluntary competition, nine-year-old Kelsey Mitchell became county Level 5 junior champion and took the bronze medal in the vault event. And Leah Pike, 16, who took time out from her GCSEs to take part, won the silver medal in the Level 2 senior section.

There was good and bad news for nine-year-old Sophie Mail in the Level 4 junior section. She was unlucky not to gain a medal position but scored enough points to qualify, along with Pike, to compete at the regional championships in Maidenhead in July.

Athens is hosting the International Gymnastics Festival and 14 gymnasts from the club and their coaches will compete against other gymnasts from all around the world. The club trains at the Chamberlayne Leisure Centre, Southampton. For information, contact Sue Maher (07759 525444).
