A chill, windy evening did little to help good performances in the first of Team Southampton's summer open meetings.

Southampton's Freya Jones made light of the conditions in the under-13 javelin. Her winning throw of 33.05 metres was the longest recorded in her age group in the country so far this year.

The 100m events were all adversely affected by the wind but there were still a series of tightly fought races. Sophie Mead continued her winning ways with another impressive victory.

The 400m hurdler, Gavin Hodgson, was an unexpected winner of the 600m in a close finish with Southampton clubmate Russell Osborne.
