SAINTS are in talks with Brighton right back Inigo Calderon, Seagulls boss Gus Poyet has revealed.
The 28-year-old Spaniard, who is out of contract at the Withdean this summer, had verbally agreed terms with Brighton.
However, Poyet said the former Alaves captain had turned his back on the club after interest from Saints.
He said: "I'm very disappointed Calderon chose to wait on an offer from Southampton and not sign for us.
"Everything was agreed and it was only the contract left to sign, but he decided to wait for Southampton.
"I said last week, we are not the Chelsea or Manchester City of this division, that is Southampton. We do not want to compete with them on wages.
"We are a proper football club and we have withdrawn the contract, because we do not accept players agreeing a contract and not signing it.
"He is not going to be our player next season, I can promise you that."
