Workington Comets 63 Isle of Wight Islanders 30.
THE Isle of Wight were again put to the sword in speedway's Premier League as Workington Comets found another gear.
On a track on which afternoon rain made early racing tricky, the Islanders once again failed to impress on the road.
Ten points up from the match at Smallbrook, they had high hopes of at least winning the bonus point, if not the match, but as in the previous night's match at Sheffield the visitors could only muster one of the fifteen race winners and again that was Chris Holder's heat 5 win for double points!
For the home side, Paul Thorp returned from injury and recorded a comfortable maximum and James Wright also went through the card unbeaten by a visitor.
Another likeness to the defeat at Sheffield was the loss of Jason Doyle, who took a nasty tumble in heat 7. By that time the home side were cruising at 29-16.
The Islanders were just not at the races with engine failures and falls proving costly.
Jason Bunyan is clearly not fit after his shoulder injury and, with guest Richard Hall only managing four points, it made life all too easy for the home side. The meeting being on a track so like the Islanders' home circuit made the scoreline all the more disappointing.
Somehow they must now dust themselves down, regroup and move onto Glasgow tomorrow to try to restore some pride.
One thing is for sure if this team is to make the end of season play-offs then they are going to have to start improving on the road, sooner rather than later.
