JUSTIN Rose secured a good finish the BMW PGA Championship today, ending the tournament on one-under-par.

The Hampshire professional fell short of victory, but has done enough to probably ensure a top-ten finish.

Rose ended an up and down week in fitting fashion today, with plenty of birdies coupled with his share of dropped shots.

The 29-year-old started the day on level par and got off to a great start.

Birdies at the third and fourth holes moved him to two-under and, with no one at the top of the leaderboard getting away, there was an outside chance Rose could even push for a win.

However, a bogey at the par-four seventh proved a setback.

Rose recovered, though, with a birdie two at the tenth to move back to two-under.

But that work was wiped out by a double bogey at the par-three 14th and another dropped shot at 15.

But a birdie at 16 moved him back to level par and Rose canned a 15-footer at the last to finish one-under.

The result will not be enough to move him back into the world’s top 50 and puts his participation at this year’s Open Championship into further jeopardy.

Southampton’s Richard Bland will be hoping to earn a place in the US Open for the second year in a row, as he tees up in the qualifier at Walton Heath tomorrow.

Bland tees off in his first round at 7.50am and starts his second round at 12.35pm.
