JUSTIN Rose admits time is running out to qualify for this year’s Open Championship, after another chance passed him by at the weekend.
The Hampshire ace, who now lives in Florida, returned home to play in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The top 50 in the world rankings after the European Tour’s flagship event automatically earned a place in The Open.
Rose started the week in 67th and needed a top-three finish to force his way in.
But, despite playing plenty of good golf, he ended the tournament tied for tenth, which only bumped him up to 64th in the world rankings.
Playing at Wentworth meant Rose missed yesterday’s Open qualifying event in America.
He will not play in qualifying in this country either, as it clashes with the Memorial Tournament in the States.
There are still ways Rose can get in, but he will need a couple of big weeks.
The last resort is to come back and play in the Scottish Open for the final place in the year’s third major.
“I’m missing qualifying, which is putting me under a little bit of pressure for the Open,” he said.
“There are other ways in, there’s various little money lists that run and obviously top sevens in various tournaments if you’re the leading guy not exempt.
“Then the last resort is obviously Scotland to qualify.
“I wanted to come and play at Wentworth, I didn’t want to stay in America just for Open qualifying, so it was a tough call.
“I had to finish top three this week, because there’s the top 50 cut off here.
“I was a couple of shots short of that, which is the way the week’s been really.
“Day one was a tough day, but since then I’ve played really, really good golf.”
