Freelance anglers have again been making the news with Dave Mastermine leading the pack when he caught a huge stingray weighing 35lb while fishing from a small 17ft private boat over a mark in the western Solent.
Mastermine, from the Waterside, was using a 5/0 hook baited with ragworm when the big stinger put in an appearance.
It made a number of powerful runs, taking a full 15 minutes before it was slid into the net.
On the shore Oliver Mapstone found plenty of action when he tackled the Gipsy Lane section at Lepe where he landed seven smoothhound, with the best weighing 14lb 3oz.
Mapstone, a 52-year old driver from the Waterside used a combination of peeler crab and ragworm to tempt the hounds with most of the fish falling just before high water.
Apart from the smoothhound he also beached a number of silver eels and also a 3lb 14oz bass.
Lance Trembling from Totton also found the smoothhound feeding well when he fished a Solent shore mark where he beached a number of hounds with the best fish tipping the scales down to 13lb 12oz.
