Jose Fonte insists Saints have to ensure they don’t put themselves under pressure again like they did in the 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield.
Saints took passing from the back to extremes in the first half at the Galpharm and were living very dangerously against a Huddersfield side who worked hard to press them high up the pitch.
By half time Saints were 2-0 down and the situation proved too much to retrieve.
It was a setback for Saints against fellow promotion rivals but Fonte believes it was a valuable learning curve for the team.
He said: “We’re disappointed. Normally we start games really well and put teams under pressure, but we put ourselves under pressure with some mistakes that we must make sure won’t happen again.
“We gave them two goals and in the second half we fought and gave everything but it’s difficult to change things, although I thought we tried hard to do that.
“We have to make sure that we don’t start like that again.

“We weren’t surprised because we knew that they would come at us and try to stop us from playing but we made the mistake of trying to play and sometimes you need to the basics and the simple things, so we learn from that.
“Sometimes you can play from the back but we put ourselves under pressure and they scored from two set pieces - we can’t afford that and we have to put it right in the next game."
