Jason Puncheon this afternoon comes up against the man he once hailed as the biggest influence on his career hoping to get one over on him and break his scoring duck for the season.
The Saints winger has seen his form gradually improve over the course of the season but is without a goal this campaign – and in 21 games in total – despite having started in all 16 league and cup games coming into today’s fixture at Notts County.
If he plays at Meadow Lane then Puncheon will be up against new County boss Paul Ince, who did so much to help his game at MK Dons.
Puncheon though is still striving for the goalscoring form he found under Ince having gone 21 games without netting and having bagged just one in his last 30 – that coming back in April in the 5-1 in over Bristol Rovers.
It’s all a far cry from Puncheon’s past goalscoring form, which is very respectable from a wide midfield position.
He bagged two in five immediately after signing for Saints and during his three loan spells at MK Dons scored 11 goals in 60 games – including eight in 32 under Ince last season which prompted Saints to sign him from parent club Plymouth.
