PAUL Ince believes Saints will provide the perfect test for Notts County in his first game as the club’s new manager.
The former England international was unveiled as replacement for the sacked Craig Short at Meadow Lane this week.
But, although today’s match will be his first in charge of the Magpies, Ince will not be allowed in the dugout.
Instead, he will be sat in the stands, serving the last game of a five-match touchline ban he picked up as MK Dons boss last season.
His new assistant manager, former Wolves and Rangers player Alex Rae, will be carrying out the pitch-side duties in his place.
“The most important thing right now is trying to get the three points,” said Ince.
“I was looking forward to it until I realised I am banned, so I am going to have to sit with the chairman, which is not the best position for me.
“Southampton are a very good side.
“It will give us a yardstick to see where we are as a club, and we’re looking forward to it.”
