SAINTS defender Dan Seaborne insists there is no complacency among the squad ahead of tonight’s game with Dagenham & Redbridge.
Nigel Adkins’ team is expected by many to turn the League One strugglers over with a fair degree of comfort at St Mary’s.
But Seaborne, right, who’s set to make his 100th career league start this evening, is adamant none of the players are taking anything for granted.
While the game may not be the most glamorous fixture, to put it mildly, the centre half also stressed that the team will be as motivated as they would be for any other match.
“We don’t approach it any differently,” declared the 23-year-old.
“It doesn’t really come into your head to be honest.
“It’s another game, it’s another three points to be had.
“It’s a level playing field at the start of the game, it’s nil-nil, so we just take it as that.
“We’ve got to go and win the game and play as well as we would against a Sheffield Wednesday, or whoever.
“It doesn’t matter who it is, we need to go and win the game.
“But they’ve obviously got a chance to win the game as well.”
Saints go into the match riding a run of three consecutive home victories.
And Seaborne added: “Our home form’s improved a little bit over the past few weeks.
“But it’s another game that we’ve just got to focus on.
“We’ve got to prepare ourselves exactly as we have done for every single game and then go from there and get the three points.”
Seaborne has more experience of playing against the Daggers than most at Saints.
Having come up through the ranks with Exeter, their paths have crossed on more than one occasion.
Seaborne has warned Saints that John Still’s team will be no pushovers.
“They’ve got a good manager and a good group of players, which they’ve had for quite a while,” he said.
“They’re a tough team to play against and a fairly direct side, from what we’ve seen of them.
“They’ll be a hard team to break down.”
Victory tonight would probably take Saints into the top six for the first time since being relegated to League One.
While Seaborne hopes they make that step this evening, he is not getting too worked up about league positions yet.
“It would be nice to be in the top six,” he said.
“But we’ve just got to concentrate and take it one game at a time, get a result against Dagenham and then look forward to the FA Cup on Saturday.
“But this game’s the big priority first and then kick on from there.”
