Nigel Adkins hailed another fine display from Adam Lallana as his side defeated Shrewsbury 2-0 in the FA Cup first round.
In what was at times a workmanlike Saints display the one real spark came from Lallana as he tried to inspire his side.
It was fitting once again that he found himself on the scoresheet as he doubled Saints’ lead with a second injury time goal.
Adkins said: “We believed we could score and that a goal was coming all the way through that second half.
“Lallana – what a player and what a joy to watch in that second half."
