SAINTS striker David Connolly will come up against his number one fan in the second round of the FA Cup.
Connolly was the hero of Saturday’s first round win over Shrewsbury, at St Mary’s. The 33-year-old came off the bench in the last minute to score one and set up the second in a 2-0 victory.
That earned Saints a tie with another League Two side, Cheltenham Town.
And no one would have been celebrating that draw more than their forward, Robin Shroot.
The 22-year-old has worshipped Connolly ever since the two were together at Wimbledon.
At the time, London-born Shroot was a youth team player, while Connolly was an established star.
But Shroot took every chance he could to learn from Connolly in training.
“I used to watch him every week when he was at Wimbledon,” said Shroot, who is on loan at Whaddon Road until January from Birmingham.
