Nigel Adkins insists there’s a lot more to come from Saints even after a 4-1 demolition of Peterborough.

The Saints boss was delighted to see his side thump one of their fellow League One promotion hopefuls with an excellent display at St Mary’s on the club’s 125th anniversary celebration day.

But, ahead of Tuesday night’s visit of table toppers Brighton, Adkins feels the best of his side has yet to be seen.

He said: “It was good – four goals and it could have been a hell of a lot more.

“Their goalkeeper made some excellent saves, we started both halves very, very well, scored some good goals and the backing of our supporters was magnificent from the start of the game and it was magnificent to sit there and listen to them hopefully enjoying the game.

“We were in the ascendancy, we started both halves very well but you’ve got to score goals.

“Their goalkeeper pulled off a couple of blinders early in the game. It takes a lot to get me off my seat but I was jumping after a couple of them because there was some great play.

“When Chamberlain knocked the ball past Marcus Williams and just left him for dead, crossed it and Lallana got a touch on the ball and the goalkeeper made a magnificent save.

“Barnard’s goal was a good one – he lashed it into the roof of the net which was really pleasing.

“We’re pleased we scored four goals and at home but there’s still a hell of a lot more to come from this team.”
