Saints are hopeful Lee Barnard will be fit for the visit of Brighton tomorrow night.

The Saints striker limped off six minutes into the second half of the 4-1 win over Peterborough with his side already 3-0 up as a precaution to try and ensure he was ready for the visit of the Seagulls.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins said: “Lee has been struggling since I’ve been at the football club with a little problem round the pelvic area.

“We’ve been trying to monitor that and manage that and nurse it.

“You could see he was wincing a bit towards the end of the first half and we talked about it with him at half time and he wanted to carry on for a bit.

“As soon as we had scored the goals it was a case of get off and think about the game on Tuesday.”

Barnard, who won his place back in the team from Morgan Schneiderlin as Adkins reverted back to 4-4-2 after the defeat at Carlisle, lashed in the opening goal in emphatic style.

It was the former Spurs forward’s fifth goal in 10 League One starts this season, and his third in the last five.

That compares favourably with talisman Rickie Lambert, who has six goals from 16 League One starts – though only one of those goals was from open play.
