SAINTS’ official historians have commemorated the club’s 125th anniversary with two special displays in Southampton.

They were held in the city’s Waterstone’s stores – on Above Bar and in West Quay – ahead of Tuesday’s game against Brighton.

The displays featured the seven books produced by Hagiology – the name the Saints historians publish under.

“It was all part of the commemoration of the 125th anniversary this week,”

explained historian David Bull.

“We are working with the two Waterstone’s branches, who have done so much to get our books out to the fans for the last 12 years.”

Hagiology’s next project is a book, due out next year, detailing all the footballers to have ever played a first team game for Saints, from 1885 up to the week of their 125th anniversary.

However, Bull admitted they could extend the cut-off point slightly.

The historians are also asking fans to help them in their hunt for some ‘missing’ Saints.

The historians have been unable to trace the surviving relatives of Winchester-born Frederick L Allen, who signed from Romsey Town and turned out against Pompey in 1931, when 15 players went on strike.

They are also trying to track down a few players from between the 1960s and 1990s who have vanished – Gerry Forrest, Dave MacLaren, Stuart McManus and Russell Watkinson.

Another new name that has cropped up is Eddie Thomas, a young keeper from the 1950s, that they can’t find.
