SAINTS have completed the deal for Plymouth youngster Jack Stephens.

The promising midfielder has joined with a three year deal worth £150,000.

As revealed in the Daily Echo last week, Stephens, 17, had been at Staplewood with a view to a move after turning down Fulham.

The deal represents something of a coup for Saints, with Newcastle and Sunderland also reported to be interested in the player.

The teenager, who is the third youngest player to ever represent Plymouth, can play in midfield of defence. He has made three starts and three appearances from the bench so far this season, although initially he will be playing for Saints' U18 academy side.

Stephens was able to move outside of the transfer window as he was still an apprentice at Home Park.

The deal will come as a blow to Pilgrims fans, but a boost for the administrators of the cash-strapped club.

• Jack Stephens is no relation to the other recent signing by Saints, Dale Stephens, who made his debut against MK Dons at the weekend.
