LEGENDARY Saints defender Francis Benali is delighted the club’s current left back, Dan Harding, is getting some serious recognition.
The former Leeds and Ipswich player has enjoyed a stellar season at St Mary’s, which was capped by him being voted into the PFA League One Team of the Year by his fellow professionals.
Benali, who carved out a fantastic career for so many years as a left back at The Dell, is pleased to see his old position being filled so well by the 27-year-old.
“I’ve met him personally and he seems a very nice guy,” said Benali.
“He’s had a very good season as well.
“You don’t get voted into the PFA team by your peers if you’ve had a poor season.
“There were five of the Saints team in the line-up, so that goes to show how well the players have played themselves, Dan included, as well as the rest of the squad this year.
“You always have a little affinity towards players that play in your position.
“But, ultimately, anyone in a Saints shirt you want to see playing well, being successful for the club and putting in good performances."
