SAINTS have opened talks with Celtic over a permanent move for Jos Hooiveld.
The 28-year-old arrived at St Mary’s on loan in August and has established himself as Jose Fonte’s first-choice partner in central defence, scoring crucial league goals against West Ham and Peterborough.
The Dutchman, whose loan deal is up in January, said earlier this month that he was “very open to staying” with Saints past the expiry of his current deal.
And his agent, Alex Kroes, confirmed that his player wants to remain with the club.
He said: "Southampton are interested in taking him over and Jos is willing to stay but Southampton and Celtic need to find a solution together about the transfer amount."
Kroes added that no discussions over personal terms can begin until the clubs have agreed a fee.
