SAINTS will be aiming to reduce the arrears when they take on Hampshire Cricket in the annual Mountbatten School sports quiz and auction later this month.
Saints’ four-strong team for the event at the Romsey school is expected to feature Richard Chaplow, Danny Butterfield, Frazer Richardson and one other.
Hampshire currently lead the footballers 16-11 in an event which has previously featured legends such as Matthew le Tissier, Jason Dodd, Robin Smith and Mark Nicholas.
Last year, players such as Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Michael Lumb and Jimmy Adams turned out for the sides.
Following the quiz, which takes place in the school hall on Thursday, November 24 (7.15pm), sporting memorabilia from home and abroad will be auctioned to raise funds for Jane Scarth House (Wessex Cancer) and the Peter Faulkner Foundation.
The auction catalogue contains over 25 items including a signed football from Saints; signed Scottish rugby ball; a signed pennant from Napoli and a Napoli shirt signed by Gokhan Inler; a signed 18th hole Royal Birkdale Pin Flag 2008 from Padraig Harrington; a signed action photograph of Amy Williams (Olympic Skeleton bob champion 2010); a 1966 signed picture of the England World cup team; a ‘Spirit of the Ashes’ framed picture signed by Andrew Flintoff.
There are also items from Real Madrid, Liverpool FC, Swansea FC, Paul Nicholls’ racing and much more.
Tickets cost £3 for adults, £2 for children and can be purchased at the door on in advance from the school office.
