George Bailey, Hampshire’s overseas player, captained Australia to victory in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
Bailey led from the front by hitting a 79-ball 89 as Australia won by 107 runs at the MCG.
He put on 140 in 23 overs with former Hampshire batsman Phil Hughes, who was man of the match on his ODI debut for his 112 (129 balls) in Australia’s 305-5.
Batting at six, Glenn Maxwell made five before Bailey took three catches as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 198.
