England have suffered an injury scare just two days before the opening Ashes Test after Ian Bell was hit in the nets at the Gabba.
The Warwickshire batsman was practicing with the rest of the England squad in the nets at the ground when he was hit on the left wrist by a delivery from Lancashire seamer James Anderson.
Bell, 24, immediately ended his net session and was given immediate ice treatment on the injury before going to a nearby hospital for a precautionary x-ray.
England were waiting anxiously for news of Bell's injury which could force a further re-think to their plans for the opening Test if it proves serious enough to rule him out.
Middlesex batsman Ed Joyce is the obvious replacement but he is short of match practice after only arriving on Friday as a replacement for Marcus Trescothick, who quit the tour after a recurrence of his stress-related illness.
