Joe Weatherley stole the show as Hampshire Under-17s began their ECB County Championship programme on a positive start with a 21-point victory over Wales at May’s Bounty.
Selected for England U17s against Sri Lanka next month, Weatherley, pictured below, hit a first innings 150 and continued to punish the young Welshmen with another 87 in his second knock.
Will Arnold (95) and Andy Gorvin (84) made their respective marks before Hampshire reached a mammoth 485-7 from 102 overs.
Spin duo Mason Crane (6-83) and Andy Marston (3-47) took the bowling credits as Wales were dismissed for 244.
Already first innings winners by a 241-run margin, Hampshire piled on the agony by scoring another 209-3 to secure extra bonus points, with Weatherley hitting 87 and Justin Parvess 63 not out.
Hampshire, who also beat Wales in the ECB 50-over Under-17 Cup, face away matches against Worcestershire this week.
