Jimmy Adams wants Hampshire to exact revenge on Kent tonight, as the Royals look to wrap up the top spot in their Friends Life t20 group.
The defending champions booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition after Friday night’s dramatic win over Essex, at the Ageas Bowl.
They now head to Canterbury this evening, knowing that a victory would give them an unassailable lead at the top of the south division, with one fixture remaining.
“We haven’t had too many home quarter-finals I don’t think, so it would be good for us to get a home one,” said Adams.
“We’ve had to go and do it the hard way a few years, so it would be nice to try and have it at home with another good crowd like we had (against Essex).”
Given Kent’s record of just two wins from eight t20 matches this season, tonight’s fixture would appear to be a golden opportunity for Hampshire to wrap things up.
But the Royals know how dangerous the Spitfires can be, after being turned over by them at home just over a week ago.
Kent’s surprise victory at the Ageas Bowl represented a first defeat in 14 domestic t20 matches for Hampshire – a run that stretched back more than a year. And Adams believes the Royals have something to prove this evening.
“We had a blip against Kent and we were disappointed with that, because we did a lot of the hard work and weren’t able to get over the line,” he said.
“They’ve found a bit of form the last few games. They’ve got some dangerous players, but we do feel we did a lot of the running in that game and should have really seen it through.
“But hopefully we can exact a bit of revenge and that goes some way to that home quarter.”
