Hampshire all-rounder James Vince has agreed a new three year deal to stay at the club.
The 22-year-old, who has risen through the county’s youth ranks to become a first team regular will now remain at the Ageas Bowl until at least 2016.
Vince said: “I am delighted to have signed a new contract here at Hampshire and am looking forward to contributing to some successful years to come with the club.
“I have really enjoyed my time at Hampshire and we have enjoyed some successful seasons. I hope it continues in that fashion and I can play a part in it.
“We have a fantastic ground, fantastic facilities and great squad of players and coaching staff here.”
Born in Sussex but raised in Wiltshire, Vince played for Hampshire’s junior sides before his 2nd XI debut in 2007.
Two years later he played his first matches for Hampshire’s first team but only became a regular in 2010, making his highest First Class score of 180 against Yorkshire at Scarborough.
In that innings he added 278 with current captain Jimmy Adams, breaking Hampshire’s fourth-wicket record which had stood since 1970.
In 2011, another century (131) and another joint record with Adams followed against Scotland in the 40-over competition; this time the highest second-wicket List A partnership (232) ever recorded at the home of Hampshire Cricket.
More recently, back to back First Class centuries against Derbyshire (114) and Leicestershire (148) straddling the 2012 and 2013 seasons saw him on his way to being Hampshire’s second-highest run scorer in this year’s Championship so far with 568 runs at an average of 43.69.
He has also starred with the bat in Friends Life t20 and Yorkshire Bank 40 cricket with notable knocks against Middlesex (84) and Essex (129*) respectively.
However, this season he is increasingly being used as a bowler and has already taken a First Class five-wicket haul against Loughborough MCCU on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
Manager Giles White said: “It’s great that James has committed to the Club for the next few years.
“He has moved forward this season with the bat and has also shown good potential with the ball.
“He is maturing into an influential player in all forms of the game and, if he continues to develop, the next phase of his career should be an exciting one.”
Vince was a key part of the Royals’ Friends Provident t20-winning team in 2010, Friends Life t20-winning team in 2012 and Clydesdale Bank 40-winning team in 2012.
His individual honours include going past 1,000 career runs for the county while still a teenager – the second youngest in the county’s history behind Phil Mead.
He has also played for England Under-19s in 2009-2010 and was selected for the England Performance Programme and Lions squads in the winters of 2011 and 2012.
During the latter's 2011 tour of Bangladesh, Vince brought up his 1,000th List A run and is widely tipped to make the full set-up in the coming years.
In total, Vince has scored more than 6,300 runs across all formats.
