Hampshire are considering taking first-class cricket back to Basingstoke next year.
The hometown of Hampshire veteran Shaun Udal and the late John Arlott has not welcomed the county to May's Bounty since June 2000.
But Hampshire have decided it is time to reward supporters in the north of the county.
The Hawks have played all their home games at the Rose Bowl since moving from Northlands Road in 2001.
It is understood that Hampshire have also considered returning to Bournemouth and Portsmouth.
But May's Bounty is the most likely outground to be used in 2008, primarily because of its distance from the Rose Bowl.
