JIMMY Adams just missed out on his first hundred of the season as Hampshire ended their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign with a fourth successive defeat.
Batting at No. 3, Adams hit an unbeaten 91 (110 balls, 11 fours two sixes) out of Hampshire’s 172, before running out of partners with 11 overs remaining as former England leg-spinner Adil Rashid (5-33) finished with his maiden five-fer.
Rookie seamer Tom Barber took his first two List A wickets in successive balls but could not prevent Yorkshire from winning by six wickets against a Hampshire team including only five of their likely Finals Day XI.
Barber, a promising left-armer, finished with 2-22 after having Yorkshire’s overseas player Kane Williamson (33) and captain Andrew Gale caught behind by Michael Bates with his second and third deliveries.
A 19 year-old from Bournemouth, Barber found some extra bounce to find the outside edge of New Zealander Williamson and Gale was caught down the leg side.
But fellow rookie Basil Akram, 21, conceded 24 from his two overs, including four fours in five balls against Williamson, in his first match after signing until the end of the season on a development contract.
Jonny Bairstow hit an unbeaten 45 (48 balls) as Yorkshire reached their target with more than 21 overs to spare, a defeat that means Hampshire finish the 50-over competition bottom of Group A.
Meanwhile, another Bournemouth-basded academy product, wicketkeeper-batsman Lewis McManus, made 155 as Hampshire drew their Second Eleven Championship match against Essex on the Nursery Ground.
