Matt Coles has received six penalty points for a dangerous throw during Hampshire's recent LV County Championship win against Leicestershire.
The Hampshire fast bowler was reported by umpires Peter Willey and Martin Saggers for a Level 2 breach of the ECB Directives (throwing the ball at or near a player, umpire or official in an inappropriate and dangerous manner).
The final-day incident also cost Hampshire four overthrows, but Coles responded with a new-ball spell of 2-21 as Leicestershire were beaten by an innings and 34 runs.
Coles had previously received a reprimand following a Level 1 breach in August 2014. The penalty for a subsequent breach at Level 2 within 24 months is six penalty points.
The penalty will remain on his record for a period of two years and the accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any two-year period will result in an automatic suspension.
Meanwhile, England's Jos Buttler was reported by umpires Tim Robinson, Neil Mallender, Rob Bailey and Michael Gough during Lancashire’s NatWest T20 Blast Semi-Final against Hampshire on August 23 for a Level 1 breach of the code (showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action).
