HAMPSHIRE cricketer Joe Gatting has signed for non-league outfit Peacehaven & Telscombe FC.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion striker – who made his Football League debut against Saints at St Mary’s in 2006 - netted his third goal in as many games for the Ryman Premier outfit when he scored in a 1-0 league cup victory at Lewes on Wednesday.
Gatting, who is midway through a two-year deal with Hampshire, will be aiming to improve on a return of 191 County Championship runs at 17.3 during his first season at the Ageas Bowl, following his move from Sussex last year.
But for now the 26 year-old son of Arsenal Under-21 coach Steve - and nephew of Ashes-winning former England captain Mike Gatting - is enjoying his return to the football field.
Peacehaven manager Shaun Saunders said: “Joe looked a bit rusty in his first game which was understandable because there is being fit and being football fit.
“He is looking better with games and I’m pleased with how he is coming along.
“He will be a good player for us. We knew that when we signed him and it is proving that way already.”
Hastings-born Gatting, 26, scored four goals in 44 games for Brighton and will make his fourth appearance for Peacehaven at home to Witham Town tomorrow.
