Shane Warne tipped Nic Pothas to win an England call up this summer after the wicketkeeper-batsman's Rose Bowl heroics yesterday.

Pothas's 114 helped the Hampshire Hawks record a 91-run win in their opening game of the season in the Friends Provident Trophy.

But it also did his chances of an England call up no harm ahead of the start of the Test series against the West Indies, which starts three days after he qualifies on May 14.

Hampshire captain Warne said: "This is Skeg's sixth season so I'm surprised he hasn't qualified already, but if England want a batsman-keeper at seven I think he's their man.

"If they go with an extra batsman and want a proper keeper at eight they should go with Chris Read.

"But there aren't any better batsman who keep wicket than Skeg - you only have to look at the runs he's scored and in the conditions he's scored them for Hampshire in recent seasons".

Pothas's 139 ball-114 was his third one-day ton, included eight fours an a six, and laid the foundations for the Hawks' 294-6.
