TOTTON & Eling have effectively narrowed the Hampshire Academy's lead at the top of the ECB Southern Electric Premier League table to 11 points after a resounding 170-run win over Hursley Park at Southern Gardens.

But they didn't have it all their own way as Jimmy Taylor's determined pre-lunch bowling spell had the double champions struggling at 100-5 at one stage.

Totton recovered to post a sizeable 250-8 before skittling the visitors for 80.

The title holders have now played two more matches than the Young Hawks, whose visit to Portsmouth was postponed due to an unfit St Helen's ground.

Totton boast a points per match average of 19.87, compared with the Academy's 21.33 from six straight wins.

The pair, whose scheduled meeting last week was washed out, go head-to-head in the final match of the season on September 1.
