STUART Clark has admitted Hampshire tend to be "overly reliant" upon their talismanic skipper Shane Warne.

Clark is currently back home in Australia after a successful early-season stint with the Hawks.

His 21 wickets were a major reason why the county qualified for the Friends Provident Trophy final against Durham at Lord's on August 18 - though he won't be returning for that showpiece occasion.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Echo, Clark said: "The main area where Hampshire need to improve is that at times they can be a overly reliant on Shane Warne.

"The younger players could perhaps show a bit more initiative instead of looking to Warne sometimes, and they also need to score more runs.

"If they can address those two things then there is really nothing to stop them from winning more trophies.

"Hampshire are a very good side. They key for them now is to convert their opportunities into wins and then to go on and win trophies.

"The players who impressed me the most were Nic Pothas, Jimmy Adams, and Chris Tremlett."
