The Hampshire Hawks' Pro40 opener against the Worcestershire Royals has been switched from New Road to Derby.

After the flooding of Worcestershire's home ground a fortnight ago, and the subsequent abandonment of their Championship match against Kent, the England and Wales Cricket Board has decided to switch the Sky-televised match, which starts at 4.40pm, to a different venue.

But Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove is disappointed with the lack of notice.

He said: I'm distinctly underwhelmed. Everyone is sympathetic to Worcestershire but there has been no mention of compensation for our members who are travelling.

"Hotels have already been booked and some might not want to go to Derby as it's not the easiest place to get to."

Hampshire manager Paul Terry is less bothered.

He said: "Playing at Derby will be unusual. I don't know how many people will be there but we just want to play a game.

"It's unfortunate on Worcestershire, what's happened up there is an act of God and out of our hands, but we're just happy to play."

Meanwhile, Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon is set to make a formal complaint to the England and Wales Cricket Board over the decision to reschedule the abandoned Championship match between Kent and Worcestershire.

Moxon said: "It's an absolute disgrace. The precedent is a very dangerous one and I'd be very surprised if everyone else in the country is not as upset and disappointed as I am. It's so tight in the Championship - every point counts. What a big decision this is the ECB have made."
