Dimitri Mascarenhas will ask England's chairman of selctors, David Graveney, to explain why he was left out of the Twenty20 World Cup squad.

Mascarenhas will warm up for the first one-day international against India at the Rose Bowl on August 21 by playing for Hampshire in the Friends Provident Trophy final against Durham at Lord's three days earlier.

He admitted his surprise at the news that he was included in Monday's ODI squad as he did not take a wicket in the three ODIs against the West Indies, although he did bowl with outstanding economy.

In addition, he could only manage three single-figure scores with the bat.

Contrastly, Mascarenhas took 2-39 in the first of his two Twenty20 appearances against the West Indies and in the second he scored an unbeaten 18 to lead England to a series-levelling victory at the Brit Oval.

Despite that, he will not be involved in the Twenty20 World Cup but will be involved in at least the first four of seven one-day internationals - starting at the Rose Bowl.

Mascarenhas said: "It was a bit of a shock, I thought I might get in the Twenty20 squad and miss out on the one dayers.

"It's the other way round but I'm definitely not complaining, I'm raring to go.

"We were training when I got the phone call so Paul Terry was told and he passed the message on.

"I'll speak to David Graveney in the next few days and then he'll give me the answer. That's all there is to it.

"I'm just looking forward to the final and the one-day internationals."
