SHANE WARNE ranks Hampshire's Friends Provident Trophy final defeat as one of the biggest lows of his entire career - but believes it will be an inspiration.

Warne's first appearance in a domestic cup final was one to forget as the Durham Dynamos won by 125 runs at Lord's to inflict a first defeat in five finals for Hampshire.

Hampshire captain Warne said: "I hate losing and this hurts. I've won more Test matches as an individual player than anyone else so I'm not used to it and don't like doing it.

"I remember losing the Ashes in 2005 at the Oval, the 1996 World Cup final to Sri Lanka and the last Test match of the 1992-93 series to the West Indies in Perth.

"As captain losing's a different sort of feeling but this is right up there with those disappointments."
