Dimitri Mascarenhas admits that India captain Rahul Dravid was a dream first one-day international scalp.

The Hampshire all rounder dismissed The Wall' as England beat India by 104 runs in the first one-day international of the best-of-seven Natwest Series.

Dravid gloved an attempted sweep to England wicketkeeper Matt Prior as India were bowled out for 184 in Mascarenhas's first international appearance at the Rose Bowl.

Mascarenhas said: "I'd take Rahul Dravid as my first international wicket any day. I got him out for Hampshire against India here in 2002 and it's always good to get a class player out.

"There was a bit of luck involved but it was a brilliant catch by Matt Prior."

Mascarenhas now has four one-day international caps and is expected to keep his place in the England side at Bristol on Friday.

But he believes he still has a lot of work to do before he is an established member of the England one-day team.

"I need to take more wickets and get a few runs now, but if I keep being consistent I'll keep getting games," he added.

Mascarenhas was watched by his parents Malik and Pauline, who arrived from Perth last week for the Friends Provident Trophy final.

His younger brother Shannon was also in an appreciative 20,000 crowd.

Mascarenhas added: "The crowd here love me but the most important thing is to win and we won so I'm happy with that.

"It's always good to get wickets at the Rose Bowl and going one nil up in the series is a brilliant start. We need to consolidate and keep that going."

England captain Paul Collingwood said: "Dimi was superb.

"Dimi does what Dimi does. He puts the ball in good areas, nips it around and changes his pace.

"He played pretty solidly. It was a very good performance from him."

Alastair Cook (102) and Ian Bell (126*) both scored maiden one-day international hundreds in England's 288-2 before James Anderson took a career-best 4-23.
