Hampshire's final match of the season was abandoned this morning.
Torrential rain had led to the abandonment of the third day of their LV County Championship match against Yorkshire at Headingley, but despite good weather in Leeds, and the sight of sprinklers watering the square this morning, the fourth day was also called off before a ball was bowled.
Disgruntled Yorkshire members were forced to make an about-turn at the gates, and Hampshire manager Paul Terry said: "The guys would obviously have loved to finish on a high but this sums the season up with all the rain we've had."
Hampshire took eight points and Yorkshire five from a match that looked like having a big say in the County Championship title shake-up earlier this month.
The result was enough for Hampshire to leapfrog Yorkshire but they had to be content with a final position of fifth place following Surrey's win against Lancashire at the Brit Oval.
