Somerset beat Hampshire by six wickets with 14 balls remaining
Hampshire bowling: Bond 9-2-33-1,Mascarenhas 10-0-26-1, Tremlett 9.4-1-39-1, Ervine 6-0-43-1, Taylor 10-0-59-0, Lamb 3-0-19-0
223-4Blackwell finished unbeaten on 86 (67 balls, 11 fours, one six) after crashing the fourth ball of the 48 over from Tremlett for four through mid-wicket. In his first match against Hampshire since scoring a century against his former county in a losing cause four years ago, John Francis contributed a crucial 48* (53 balls) to the unbroken 132-run fifth-wicket stand. Hampshire will have to wait 12 days for the chance to bounce back in the Friends Provident Trophy against the same opponents under the Rose Bowl floodlights.
218-4Bond begins with a wide and his first over back does not get any better, ending with just four required from the last 18 balls.
206-4Blackwell crashed the last delivery of the 46th over, from Tremlett, to the fence to leave just 16 required from 24 balls. Bond is about to return at the far end.
196-4With Somerset needing 25 runs from the last five overs after an expensive few minutes from Taylor, Tremlett has returned at the Old Pavilion End. Hampshire's hopes now rest with their opening bowlers.
185-4Ervine conceded seven runs from two deliveries to Francis as Somerset reduce their target to 36 from 36 balls.
174-4After switching to the River End, Billy Taylor produced a tidy 43rd over.
171-4Ervine could not stem the flow of runs from Blackwell's bat in the 42nd over, at the end of which Somerset required 51 from the last 48 deliveries.
161-4Blackwell reached his fifty from just 41 balls with an inside edge against Chris Tremlett that flew to the boundary. Somerset need 61 from 54 balls with six wickets in hand.
152-4 With ten overs left, Somerset needed 70 to win. Blackwell crashed the last ball of the 40th over back over Billy Taylor's head. This match could go either way. Or we could even have another tie like we did when these sides last met at the Rose Bowl in the same competition last May.
120-4 Blackwell tucked into Lamb at the beginning of the off-spinner's first over, the 33rd, but the Zimbabwean served up a tidier portion in his next over, leaving Somerset needing 102 to win from the last 90 balls with six wickets in hand.
WICKET (91-4) Former Hampshire batsman John Francis has joined fellow left-hander Ian Blackwell after 20-year-old Craig Kieswetter (49)was denied his third one-day fifty for Somerset. The South African-born batsman-wicketkeeper was beaten for pace in the 29th over early on in Shane Bond's second spell. After lofting Ervine for a six over long on, Kieswetter was looking dangerous, but Somerset's required run-rate is now creeping up.
WICKET (75-3)After replacing Dimitri Mascarenhas after a typically economical spell from the skipper (10-0-26-1) at the Old Pavilion End, Sean Ervine struck midway through his third over, the 26th. He bowled James Hildreth (17), who missed an attempted drive and lost his off stump. Hampshire look favourites at this stage.
38-2After being launched for a huge six over long on by opening batsman Craig Kieswetter, Mascarenhas responded with a huge lbw shout midway through the 14th over. When it was turned down Mascarenhas let Kieswetter know it was close.
WICKET (30-2) Tremlett did not take long to take his first wicket. Somerset skipper Justin Langer (2) was pinned lbw after beaing beaten for pace by a full-length delivery from the big man at the end of the 11th over.
29-1 With ten overs gone, the mandatory powerplay at the beginning of the Somerset innings is over and Chris Tremlett has replaced Shane Bond at the River End. Two five-over power plays remain, during which Hampshire will have to have a maximum of two players fielding outside the 30-yard circle. Mascarenhas will decide when they begin but so far Somerset CCC have done an awful job letting the spectators know when each power play is about to start. Powerplays have been introduced to the Friends Provident Trophy to bring the 50-over competition in line with one-day internationals.
WICKET (16-1) Dimitri Mascarenhas took the vital wicket of former England batsman Marcus Trescothick (12) in the sixth over of Somerset's reply. Trescothick drove aggressively outside off stump with little sign of any footwork. The result was a thick edge to Michael Lumb, who was fielding in a wide first-slip position. Hampshire's 221 suddenly looks a more competitive total but with Justin Langer now at the crease, there is a long way to go yet.
Hampshire made 221 (49.2 overs) after losing the toss
WICKET (221) Hampshire were bowled out with four balls left of their 50-over allocation when Greg Lamb was well caught by a diving Blackwell on the cover boundary for a breezy 15.
WICKET (217-9)Soon after arriving at the crease for his first innings in a Hampshire shirt, Shane Bond (0) ran himself out.
WICKET (217-8)After missing a wild swing at a Ben Phillips delivery, Chris Tremlett (2) was comprehensively bowled in the penultimate over of the innings.
WICKET (214-7)Justin Langer held on to a stunning two-handed diving catch at mid-wicket to see off Dimitri Mascarenhas (53) at the beginning of the 48th over from Steffan Jones. Mascarenhas had reached his first fifty of the season from 75 balls after lofting Ben Phillips for a straight six in the previous over.
WICKET (182-6) Kieswetter demolished the stumps after James Hildreth's throw from deep extra cover beat Nic Pothas (55) as he attempted to get back for what would have been a third run for Mascarenhas.
174-5 From the last ball of the 40th over, Nic Pothas reached his half century from 48 balls. He has just hit Ian Blackwell for a straight six, his second maximum of the day, both of which have been against the slow left armer. The other was swept over deep mid-wicket in the 29th over. Pothas has also hit three fours and Dimitri Mascarenhas, who was dropped at short extra cover after a powerful drive against Blackwell on 25, is still there on 33.
WICKET (96-5) Having been replaced by Trego after just one over at the Old Pavilion End, Phillips had Sean Ervine (7) caught behind at the end of his second over from the River End, the 24th of the innings.
WICKET (83-4) He scored 105 for the second XI against Sussex at Hove last week but Chris Benham (16) was trapped lbw by Peter Trego's medium pace at the end of the 21st over today.
WICKET (78-3) With the penultimate ball of his first over, the 19th of the innings, Ben Phillips denied Michael Lumb (46)a fifty. Lumb, who faced 61 balls, was well caught low down at cover by Durston after driving Phillips on the up in pursuit of his ninth four. Lumb had looked in fine touch but has been replaced by another in-form left hander in Sean Ervine, who struck 188 for the second XI in their drawn three-day match against Sussex last week.
WICKET 23-2 In Willougby's next over the prize wicket of John Crawley (4) was taken. The former England batsman was returning for a second run when he was beaten by an excellent throw by Francis from deep mid-wicket. Wes Durston flicked the ball back from the boundary rope and Francis's accurate throw allowed wicketkeeper Kieswetter to apply the coup de grace with Crawley well adrift of the crease.
WICKET 17-1After winning the toss, Somerset wasted no time in taking the first wicket. Michael Carberry (12) attempted to work Charl Willoughby through mid-wicket but succeeded only in sending a leading edge to former Hampshire batsman John Francis at short cover point in the fifth over.
Somerset: Trescothick, Kieswetter, Langer, Hildreth, Blackwell, Trego, Durston, Francis, Phillips, Jones, Willoughby
Hampshire: Carberry, Benham, Crawley, Ervine, Lumb, Pothas, Lamb, Mascarenhas, Tremlett, Bond, Taylor
