Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry hopes to impress England captain Michael Vaughan with another Headingley century after being named in this season's England Performance squad.
The 27-year-old is one of three uncapped players in the 26-man squad alongside Yorkshire prodigy Adil Rashid, who he will be up against at Headingley this week, and Kent's James Tredwell.
Carberry's Hampshire teammates Chris Tremlett and Dimitri Mascarenhas were both included as well as Kevin Pietersen, who is one of the 12 players in the squad centrally contracted by the ECB, and the recalled Rob Key.
An aggregate of 1,067 Championship runs at 50 last season followed by an impressive tour of India with the England Lions earned Carberry his inclusion.
He said: "I knew I gave myself a good chance but being named in the squad was a bit of a surprise as I thought there were still a few other guys ahead of me.
"It's an honour and a great thrill but now I've got to press on and actually get in the England team."
Carberry will do his chances no harm if he returns to his form of last summer, when he completed an outstanding season with a fifth first-class century in the final Championship game at Headingley.
His unbeaten 113 against a Yorkshire attack including Darren Gough and Matthew Hoggard drew praise from Vaughan.
Carberry returns to Headingley tomorrow for Hampshire's second Championship match of the new season.
Yorkshire captain Gough is unlikely to play this time but with Vaughan set to open the batting, Carberry knows another good Headingley performance will do his chances of an England call-up no harm at all.
He was out for two following a contentious lbw decision in Hampshire's opening Championship match of the season against Sussex at the Rose Bowl last week.
But after ending last season strongly, a fourth hundred in five Championship matches would not go unnoticed.
He said: "Every match is an opportunity to get the runs that will put my name forward.
"My hundred in the corresponding fixture at the end last season was one of my better ones because it was against such an experienced attack.
"Michael Vaughan knows what I'm about as I had a good chat with him afterwards and he was very positive."
