SHANE Warne has admitted his former Hampshire colleague Kevin Pietersen’s “pretty big ego” will have been dented by the remarkable events of this week.
Pietersen stepped down as England skipper on Wednesday and the coach he had fallen out with, Peter Moores, was sacked.
The Rose Bowl star had been in charge of England for just five months.
Warne admits the whole sorry affair might just make Pietersen an even better player, and an even bigger danger to Australia when the Ashes starts next summer.
“Kevin is a guy who likes the limelight, he likes to be the man,” said Warne.
“He’s obviously got a pretty big ego as well, so that will be dented a bit.
“But he’s also got the ability, no matter what’s going on, to perform."
