FOUR years after captaining Hampshire to the C&G Trophy, Shaun Udal will try to knock his former county out of the same competition tomorrow.
Middlesex skipper Udal is hoping for a repeat of last season’s man-of-thematch return to Hampshire in tomorrow’s Friends Provident Trophy quarter-final (10.45am start).
Veteran Udal led his new county to victory at West End by starring with bat and ball against his former Hampshire teammates in the opening game of last season’s Twenty20 Cup.
That was his first game at the Rose Bowl since being brought out of retirement by Middlesex.
Now 40, Udal is preparing his second appearance at the Rose Bowl with Middlesex.
He said: “I can’t wait for this game.
Hampshire have been excellent in all competitions so far this season under Giles White.
“They have a very good all-round side with a huge amount of potential – but losing Dimi and Chris Tremlett being injured are both huge blows.”
Middlesex will be without several players, including the England oneday trio of Andrew Strauss, Owais Shah and Eoin Morgan plus Australia starlet Phil Hughes, whose six-week stint with the county concluded earlier this week.
Udal continued: “We won’t have four of our top five but we have got guys coming in who are in form – and there’s an outside chance that Tyron Henderson will be back from the IPL in time.
