AFTER replacing John Crawley in Hampshire’s Friends Provident Trophy side, Jimmy Adams is determined to stay there.

Crawley began the competition with a century against Worcestershire but was surprisingly left out of Hampshire’s team for the crucial group A match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on Wednesday.

Adams was recalled to open with Michael Lumb on the ground where he struck a career best 262 not out in the County Championship three years ago.

After being told he would play his second one-day match of the season on the morning of the game, Adams discovered his innings would probably give Hampshire a home tie when he heard news of Worcestershire’s shock collapse against Ireland over the Trent Bridge tannoy.

He kept his head, responding with an unbeaten 90-ball 73 as Hampshire qualified for today’s Rose Bowl quarter-final against Middlesex with a ten-wicket win.
