HAMPSHIRE’S Kevin Pietersen failed to get off the mark in England’s first game of their tour of Bangladesh, but fellow South African import Craig Kieswetter was on form, cracking a boundary-strewn century to lead England to a 112-run victory over a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in his first appearance for his adopted country.
The Johannesburg-born opener was a last-minute addition to the one-day touring party after some eye-catching displays for the England Lions and announced his senior credentials in the most emphatic fashion with 143 off 123 deliveries.
The innings was not without its good fortune, containing as it did four dropped catches and a botched stumping, but the natural timing he showed as he hit six sixes and 14 fours is just what team director Andy Flower has been looking for at the head of the innings.
Vice-captain Paul Collingwood was also in top form, crashing a care-free 109 in 74 balls and hitting six maximums of his own as England wracked up a mammoth 370 for seven in 50 overs.
Pietersen fared less well, harshly judged lbw off his first delivery, while spinner Graeme Swann impressed with the ball as he picked up four for 44 as the home side closed on 258 for nine.
