New Milton pair Ben Edgell and Ryan Bishop have become the first batsmen to share a treble-century partnership in Southern Electric Premier League cricket.

They celebrated a record 302-run second-wicket stand as New Milton piled up a massive 331-1 before beating Division 3 rivals Sparsholt by 58 runs at Fernhill.

The pair came together at 29-1 when Andy Pryce bowled James Whitehurst (14) and were still together at tea.

Edgell, the former Bryanston School captain, struck a career-best 154 not out, with South African Bishop hitting an unbeaten 138.

New Milton's total bettered their previous highest 323-4 against Lymington II in 2001.

Led by an Ollie Kelly (100) century, Sparsholt made a plucky fightback, rallying from 178-6 to close at 273 all out.

An unbeaten century by Richard Knowles swept Bashley (Rydal) II to a six-wicket win over Calmore Sports at the BCG.

Knowles cracked two sixes and 15 fours in an unbeaten 102 as Bashley overhauled Calmore's 174 (Keith Woodhall 41).

Callum Maher took 3-25 for Bashley, who were in some difficulty at 73 until Knowles found a reliable partner in teenager Chris Vaughan, whose unbeaten 39 guided the side to victory.

Zimbabwe Test batsman Charles Coventry smashed seven huge sixes in a devastating 84 not out as United Services thrashed a youthful Bournemouth II by eight wickets at Burnaby Road.

Coventry laid siege to the largely teenage Bournemouth attack, peppering the nearby Portsmouth University buildings with sixes one smashing a plate glass window!

He made a nonsense of Bournemouth's 232-4, built around openers Martin Miller (89) and Neil Staddon (81), who shared a 161-run start.

Dan Jarman (37) pushed Bournemouth's total on to 232-4, but US responded with a century start of their own between Andy Galliers (64) and Damian Carson (54).

Then Coventry who will renew his Bournemouth ties when he plays for the Southern Premier League in tomorrow evening's Twenty20 Challenge match against Hampshire at Chapel Gate (6.15) took complete control.

He hit teenage spinner Ian Malik for 28 runs off one over and generally ran amok as US got home with 16 overs to spare.
