Hampshire’s Friends Provident t20 plans are in chaos –as they expect to be without marquee signing Shahid Afridi.
Manager Giles White is already looking for a replacement following Pakistan T20 captain Afridi’s decision to end his four-year Test exile.
White signed Afridi four months ago but is now planning without him as Pakistan have six Tests in England this summer.
Hampshire’s t20 campaign begins on June 3 and Pakistan’s next Test, against Australia, is not until July 13.
But Afridi was already due to miss a handful of FP t20 group games in mid-June so he could play in the Asia Cup.
And Pakistan’s Twenty20 internationals against Australia at Edgbaston at the beginning of July would have ruled him out of more of Hampshire’s group games.
"I’ve spoken to his agent and I suspect Afridi will not be with us," admitted White, who heard the news during Hampshire’s Clydesdale Bank 40 thrashing of Warwickshire at Edgbaston on Saturday.
