Chris Tremlett is ready for the Ashes after recovering from the bruised ribs he suffered on England’s recent boot camp.
England coach Andy Flower has come in for more criticism for taking the Ashes squad for a boot camp that left two bowlers with rib injuries.
It was Tremlett’s punch during the week in Germany earlier this month that broke one of James Anderson’s ribs.
“It was just unlucky,” says Tremlett. “We were in the camp for a week and we did so many other things, we just happened to have an accident boxing.
“Jimmy will be fine for the tour. We’re not really thinking about it any more.”
Anderson will miss the first of England’s three warm-up games, against Western Australia in Perth, but Tremlett is looking forward to it.
“The three practice games are really important and we’ve basically got a month out there to show our form,” he continued. “If I can start off bowling well then I’ve got a chance. I’m certainly not going to Australia to carry the drinks.
“I’m just really excited about getting out there and playing.”
Tremlett made his three previous Test appearances against India in 2007.
"I've not been in the (England) starting XI this season so all I can do is prepare well and if I get an opportunity in the practice games then do my best and go from there really.
"Obviously I was involved in 2005 and that was an amazing feeling but, going to Australia, it'd be extra special to bring the Ashes home. "I'm so grateful and so honoured to be part of the Ashes squad and I want to grab the opportunity with both hands and enjoy it - and hopefully come back with the little urn."
England fly out tomorrow and Tremlett continued: "There are the odd nerves but I think it'll be when I get off the plane that it really kicks in. The main feeling is excitement, I was packing my bags yesterday and it makes you feel part of it.
"The hype's been building ever since the squad came out, but I'm sure it's going to get more involved when we get over to Australia. You've got to relish that and enjoy it, and step out on that pitch all guns blazing."
